The Spring 2026 mission trip took us far and wide across Uganda, teaching, building, and celebrating Nexus Seminary Uganda’s 20th Anniversary. Our journey took us from Boston on a 14-hour flight, an overnight layover in Dubai, and another five-hour flight before arriving in Kampala. Our first trip included two days with Pastor Alex in the Rakai district in southern Uganda. There, the Rev. B.J. Norrix taught from his newest book for Nexus students, “The 37 Miracles of Jesus”, while Doug Johnston lent his labor to the construction of a latrine for the church. We also inspected the new well that Friends of Nexus provided through Wells of Love, and visited several wells that are no longer working and need repair. Loss of a well means that people (often women and children) must walk at least a mile to the next working well. The alternative is to collect water from surface sources, including ditches along the road. Access to clean water remains a pressing need for local congregations.

Day three of this leg of the mission trip took us to Gomba and Pastor Israel’s church and school. During the worship service, the Rev. B.J. preached on the Great Commandment, and Doug Johnston gave an overview of the Biblical perspective on environmental stewardship. We were blessed with the attendance of the regional representative of the King of Buganda. Rev. Davis passed along reusable menstrual products for school girls, donated through Friends of Nexus. Now, girls will be less likely to miss school during their periods. After church, we returned to Kampala.

The next overland trip took us north to the Kaberamaido district. South of Kaberapoli is the site of the new mission center for Nexus Seminary, which is needed to serve this region because the closest hotel is at least a four-hour drive away. Kaberapoli has no electrical service and only recently gained some cell-phone service. Pastor Michael donated some of his land for the mission center, which includes a teaching space and living quarters. It also includes three rainwater collection systems for use by the mission center and the local community. B.J. taught the class of students in this region while Doug worked with Engineer Moses to build a greywater recycling system for Pastor Michael, providing a field test/demonstration project for environmental stewardship. We were there for three nights and gave the new mission center a good shakedown.

On Friday we traveled back toward Kampala, stopping in Luwero. We visited Dr Moses and Monica and their family at their medical clinic. The ultrasound machine donated by Friends of Nexus has been a tremendous boost to prenatal care in this remote area. Saturday took us out to Wabusaana for a day of teaching with Nexus Seminary students from that region. Sunday took us way out into the countryside to attend church and preach at Kidaama. We were treated to dances and drumming by the children, youth, and young adults of the church.

Upon our return to Kampala, we prepared Rev. Davis’ Seeta City Church for the 20th Anniversary Summit and Celebration (see the previous post for more details). Rain in the region makes travel on dirt roads difficult at best, and slower in the city, but attendance steadily grew to over 60 former and current students, leaders, and other guests. The event was a combination of worship, testimony, teaching, and reporting. We celebrated with cake – an unusual treat in Uganda, and soft-serve ice-cream (an even rarer treat, particularly in rural parts of the country.
